Also, all of these things are great for your overall health and immunity protecting you from well.. you know the virus 😛
1, Ovulation test strips. Knowing when you are about to ovulate is key when knowing exactly when the baby dance is going to be most likely to get the swimmers to the egg. These strips are affordable and effective. The premom app is also a great charting program and it also helps you know when you hit your peak ovulation by analyzing your strips. This is actually super cool because sometimes these tests are hard to read.
2. Basal Body Thermometer
When charting it is super important that you have a thermometer with 2 decimal points. This is how you will get the most accurate information for your chart. When looking to see how you hormones are working together you want the clearest info possible.
3. High Quality PreNatal
I searched high and low for a accessible high quality prenatal with whole food based vitamins and minerals that were readily absorbed and used by the body. Making sure you are using the right prenatal goes a long way when ensuring you are nourishing your body for fertility. I can not say enough good things about this vitamin. I even have a super sensitive tummy, so being able to take one pill with each meal made a huge impact on how I was able to digest them.
4. Vitamin D3
There are some great articles out there for you to research what the right dose of Vitamin D3 is for you. I can tell you what drops I use the most often but that’s as far as I go here. Know that D3 is a precursor for other hormones in your body. Having adequate D3 levels improves both IVF success rates and pregnancy outcomes. Its a must have for sure.
Iodine is an essential mineral commonly found in seafood. Your thyroid gland uses it to make thyroid hormones, which help control growth, repair damaged cells and support a healthy metabolism. Women who are deficient in iodine and trying to get pregnant may have half the chance of conceiving compared to women with healthy iodine levels, according to a recent U.S. study.
43% of women in the United States are deficient to some degree.
Women deficient in iodine were 46% less likely to get pregnant each cycle.
Not only is adequate iodine important to support optimal fertility, it is important for healthy fetal development, including thyroid function of both mom and baby, brain and IQ development as well.
6. CoQ10 Ubiquinol
This packs a powerful fertility punch for both men and woman. You are looking for the Ubiquinol because it is the most potent form and ready to be used by the body. It is a powerful antioxidant that fights free radicals that have a negative impact on sperm and egg health.
7. 5 Methyl Folate
Everyone says to take folic acid, did you know that up to 25% of woman in certain populations cant even process folic acid into the usable folate? This is because of a gene mutation called MTHFR. This means their entire life, their body has struggled to get folate into the eggs. This gene even impacts sperm. If you are struggling with infertility or recurrent miscarriage this is a supplement you need to look into for him and her.
8. Omega 3’s
Again I love this brand, but why omega 3’s? One, the right fats feed the right hormones, two you get plenty 6 and 9’s in your diet, taking just a 3 will bring things back in balance. I also encourage a animal based omega because flax can have phyto estrogens, which are counter productive. Third, omega 3’s are anti inflammatory which is super important when trying to conceive.
Probiotics help you heal you gut which in turn helps you absorb more nutrients and lower inflammation. As you re-balance your gut bacteria you may see weight loss and improved mood. We also should mention your vaginal microbiome and how it can impact the survival of sperm, there are other natural treatments you can look up for this. Working on your microbiome in general will go a long way down there. I like this one because its action packed with lots of great strains, and all of the strains that studies found to be beneficial to fertility.
Another antioxidant powerhouse that studies show help support IVF success rates… because it supports egg health. And then there is the perk its known for which is to help you sleep which is so important in healing your body and your hormones. I recommend the 1 mg so you can work up to a dose that works for you. Some people can take 10 mg and feel great in the morning, for me 2 is good or I wake up groggy.
I always recommend that you have your partner follow the same protocol as you. If you have any concerns about his fertility you may want to look at also adding in a supplement specifically for him. The one I recommend is FertileAid. Its not on Canadian Amazon sadly but its a good one and I don’t want to just put something on here to make a buck… so go here
I will be following this up with posts with products and supplements that are more specific, this is the baseline supplements you should look at adding. I do also want to say though. The better the diet, the less of this you will need to take. I think that once you heal your gut and figure out the root cause this list can change for sure.
